Matt Mattia is a plant scientist that measures biological traits in pongamia to better understand plant processes. He facilitates the breeding and development of superior pongamia varieties. Matt is driven by the art and science of plant breeding to develop pongamia trees that limit agricultural environmental impact and provide a sustainable nutritious food source for consumers. His passion is developing crops that feed the world with less natural resource inputs.
Matt has broad experience breeding many crops for desirable traits such as soybean, tomato, turfgrass, switch grass and citrus. He earned his PhD and MS in Horticultural Sciences with an emphasis in plant breeding and genetics from the University of Florida, and a BS in Agronomy from Iowa State University. Matt loves tropical plants and spends his free time sampling tropical fruits and visiting botanical gardens.
